Gyrenes Drop Road Contest Against FMU

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- A cold-shooting first half was the difference in the Gyrenes 58-46 loss to Florida Memorial on Thursday night in Miami Gardens. The Gyrenes shot 19 percent over the opening 20 minutes to fall behind 29-18 at the half.
 
Martez Harris led the Blue and Green with 16 points and six rebounds. Brandon Dean also finished in double-figures with 14 points. Julian Adams added eight points and six rebounds. Eric Richardson and Nate Krimsky each grabbed eight rebounds.
 
Devonte Byrd led the Lions with a game-high 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including going six-of-eight from three.
 
Early in the opening half with the Gyrenes leading by two, Martez Harris hit a three-pointer to extend the Gyrenes lead to 7-2. Still maintaining a three point lead, 10-7, Florida Memorial went on an 11-2 run to take a six point lead on the Gyrenes. Another run late in the half gave the lions a 29-18 lead going into the break.
 
In the second half, Ave Maria was able to cut the deficit down to four, 31-27, six and a half minutes in but a 15-4 spurt pushed the Lions lead back out to 15. Florida Memorial would go on to lead by as many as 19 in the second half and went on to win 58-46.
 
Ave Maria closes out the season on Saturday when they host St. Thomas at 4 p.m. Prior to the game, the Gyrenes will honor their six seniors.
