MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- Senior Annie Artise grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with 18 points to eclipse the 1,000 rebound mark in the Lady Gyrenes 81-50 rout of Florida Memorial on Thursday night. Artise was one of four Lady Gyrenes to score in double-figures.

Needing just four rebounds to reach 1,000 for her career, Artise grabbed her fourth rebound of the game with 6:05 remaining in the second quarter. She went on to have six in the first half and 10 in the game. Artise is the second player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.

Katie Houbolt also netted 18 points to go with five rebounds and four assist. Lauren Gillingham nearly recorded a double-double with 17 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Jasmine Bateman added 17 points.

The Lady Gyrenes got off to a slow start, trailing 13-2 with 4:14 to play in the opening quarter. A 7-0 run by the Blue and Green cut the deficit to 15-13. The Lions ended the half on a 5-1 run to take a 20-14 lead after one quarter of play. In the second quarter, Ave Maria pulled to within one, 26-25, and kept that deficit heading into halftime at 33-32.

The third quarter was all AMU, the Gyrenes outscored the Lions 31-10 to take a 63-43 lead heading to the fourth quarter. Leading by one, 41-40, with 5:31 to play in the third, Ave Maria closed the quarter on a 22-3 run to put the game out of reach. Ave Maria continued to extend its lead in the fourth quarter, going on to win 81-50.

The Lady Gyrenes shot 43 percent for the game after shooting just 29 percent in the opening quarter. AMU was 7-of-14 from three and 20-of-29 from the free throw line.

The Ave Maria defense held Florida Memorial to 27 percent shooting and to 4-of-22 from three. AMU forced 27 turnovers.

Ave Maria closes out the season on Saturday when they host St. Thomas at 2 p.m. Following the game, the Lady Gyrenes will honor their two seniors, Yvanessa Vincent and Annie Artise.
