TAMPA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria softball team went 2-0 on Saturday, defeating Middle Georgia 6-4 on a walk-off grand slam by Deanna Stirtzinger and coming out on top of Martin Methodist 5-1 behind s grand slam by Marinna Shadley.

Against Middle Georgia, the Knights got on the board first, scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. In the bottom half of the third, Sadie Mosher hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit to one. Middle Georgia added a run in the fourth to make it 4-2 Knights.

After a leadoff ground out in the bottom of the seventh with AMU trailing 4-2, back-to-back errors and a walk loaded the bases for Stirtzinger. The sophomore took advantage of the error by the Knights and blasted her second home run of the season, a grand slam, to win it for AMU 6-4.

Katelyn Packard got the start for AMU and pitched three inning and got a no decision. Gennifer Raulerson pitched four innings of relief and allowed one run on five hits to get the win.

Against Martin Methodist, the Gyrenes got their first run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second. A few batters later and the bases loaded, Shadley stepped up to the plate and hit her first home run as a Lady Gyrene, another grand slam, to give AMU a 5-0 advantage.

Katelyn Packard picked up the win, pitching four innings and allowing one unearned run on three hits. Gennifer Raulerson pitched three scoreless innings in relief to close out Martin Methodist.
