TAMPA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria softball team went 2-0 on Sunday to finish the NAIA Preview Weekend 5-1. The Lady Gyrenes defeated Edward Waters 8-3 before taking down Cumberland University 2-0. The Blue and Green move to 10-2 on the season.

Ave Maria jumped on top early in their first game of the day against Edward Waters with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Genevieve Twigg drove in the first run on a double up the middle to plate Marinna Shadley before Marissa Conde singled to score Twigg.

After Edward Waters got a run back in the second inning, Twigg added her second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to bring in Miranda Dessecker to make it 3-1. After scoring a run in the third, Edward Waters tied the game at three with another run in the top of the fourth.

The Lady Gyrenes broke the tie in the bottom half of the fourth when Sadie Mosher hit a two-run home run. In the fifth inning, Michella Davis single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth to bring in Deanna Stirtzinger and Alyssa Colding. AMU added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Stritzinger hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Shadley.

Gennifer Raulerson picked up the win, pitching 2.1 innings in relief of Katelyn Packard. Raulerson retired all seven batters she faced. Therese Aronica closed the game out with a 1-2-3 seventh.

In the second game of the afternoon, Ave Maria defeated Cumberland 2-0. Scoreless in the fifth inning, Brooke Pierron doubled in Taylor Sterling to give AMU a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Pierron scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

Sadie Mosher pitched a complete game to earn the win. She allowed three hits and one walk while striking out 10.

AMU returns to action on Wednesday when they host Oakland for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
