AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The 2016 Ave Maria women's lacrosse season got underway on Saturday afternoon when AMU hosted Florida Tech. The Panthers won the game by a score of 20-1.

The NCAA Division II opponent scored the first 12 goals of the game and took a 12-0 lead into halftime. The Blue and Green got on the board first in the second half when Mackenzie Tourville scored on a man-up opportunity to make it 12-1.

Florida Tech scored eight goals in the second half to make the final 20-11.

Tourville led the Lady Gyrenes with a goal and three shots. She also had three groundballs and four draw controls. Abby Castro and Richelle Harris also finished with three ground balls.

Netminder Hannah Camerota finished with 11 saves in the loss.

Allie Modica led Florida Tech with five goals and an assist. Sara Grenier added four goals and two assists. Eight players scored for the Panthers.

Ave Maria returns to action on Feb. 28 when they take on Lawrence Tech at 1 p.m.
