Ave Maria Swept At NCAA DII Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --- The Ave Maria softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at NCAA DII Barry University on Saturday afternoon. AMU fell in game one 7-0 before dropping game two 12-4 in six innings.
 
Barry took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a sac fly. They added two more runs later in the inning on a 2-RBI double to center to take a 3-0 lead. The Buccaneers scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game out of reach.
 
Sadie Mosher took the loss in game one, pitching four innings and allowing seven runs, four earned. She allowed nine hits and struck out seven. Meghan Sullivan and Gennifer Raulerson each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
 
Alyssa Colding recorded the lone hit for AMU in game one.
 
In game two, Barry took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. The Gyrenes cut the deficit in half, 2-1, when Mosher drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the fourth to bring in Rachel Curtiss.
 
The Buccaneers responded with six runs in the bottom half of the fourth to make the score 8-1.
 
In the sixth inning, Marinna Shadley hit a two-run homerun to left field to pull AMU within five, 8-3. In the ensuing at-bat, Mosher hit a solo homerun to center to make it 8-4. Barry came back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to run rule AMU in six innings.
 
Six different Gyrenes registered a hit in game two. Shadley and Mosher each had a pair of RBIs in game two.
 
Raulerson allowed eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits and one walk over 3.2 innings. She struck out two.
 
AMU returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Auburn Montgomery for a doubleheader. The twin bill is set to begin at 3 p.m.
