AMU Rally Comes Up Short In Loss To Warner

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- After trailing by 13 at the half, Ave Maria pulled to within three in the fourth quarter before eventually falling to Warner 65-57.
 
The Lady Gyrenes trailed by four, 18-14, after the opening quarter but were outscored 13-4 in the second quarter to fall behind by 13. Ave Maria scored nearly half of their 57 total points in the third quarter, were they scored 26 points to pull to within five, 49-44, heading to the fourth.
 
With 5:13 to play, Taylor Lindsey hit a jumper to bring the AMU deficit to three, 54-51. The Lady Gyrenes went cold over the final five minutes and a four-minute scoreless drought allowed Warner to go on an 8-0 run to increase their lead to 11 with 51 seconds remaining.
 
Lindsey led the Gyrenes in scoring with 12 points. Annie Artise and Lauren Gillingham each recorded double-doubles for the Blue and Green. Artise finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Gillingham added 10 points and 10 boards.
 
Mariah Williams finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds for Warner. I'munique Green also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Warner outrebounded the Lady Gyrenes 45-36 and won the turnover battle 22-18. The Royals shot 39 percent from the field while AMU shot 29 percent for the afternoon. Ave Maria was 7-of-34 from three.
 
Ave Maria returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Florida College for a non-conference match-up.
