AMU Routs Florida College, 73-53

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team outrebounded Florida College 47-30 and held the Falcons to 30 percent shooting in the Lady Gyrenes' 73-53 win on Tuesday night.
 
Lauren Gillingham and Annie Artise each notched double-doubles for the Lady Gyrenes. Gillingham finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Artise recorded 10 points and 14 boards. Artise sits just 12 rebounds shy of 1,000 for her career.
 
Taylor Lindsey led the Blue and Green in scoring with 16 points. Katie Houbolt added 13 points and six rebounds. Jasmine Bateman was the fifth Lady Gyrene to score in double-figures with 11 points.
 
Laurie Beaty led the Falcons with 15 points and six rebounds. Toni Cox had 11 rebounds for Florida College.
 
Florida College knocked down a three to start the game but Ave Maria took the lead a few minutes later on a Houbolt jumper, 7-6. Florida College would tie the game at 13-13 but the Lady Gyrenes never gave up the lead and would hold on to it for the rest of the night.
 
Leading 19-13 after one quarter of play, Bateman made a three to start the second quarter to extend the AMU lead to nine. After a Falcons jumper, Lindsey knocked down a three to make it a double-digit lead for the Blue and Green, 25-15. Florida College kept within striking distance but Ave Maria was able to maintain a 13 point edge, 38-25, heading into the break.
 
Leading by eight with 5:12 to play in the third quarter, Ave Maria then finished the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 53-36 lead on the Falcons. AMU went on to lead by as many as 24 in the fourth quarter before finishing with a 73-53 victory.
 
The Lady Gyrenes return to action on Saturday when they travel to Keiser for a 2 p.m. Sun Conference matchup.
