AVE MARIA, Fla. --- Mackenzie Tourville scored six goals and eight other Lady Gyrenes found the back of the net as the Ave Maria women's lacrosse team rolled past the University of Pikeville 18-5. AMU improves to 3-5 overall on the season.

The Lady Gyrenes came out firing, scoring five goals in the first five minutes. Tourville and Katelyn Sherman each netted two goals during that span while Abby Castro had the other goal. After Pikeville scored, Sherman added her third goal followed by two more from Tourville with a goal by Georgia Miller mixed in to make it 9-1.

Alexis Smich and Karina Shaffrey also had goals in the opening 30 minutes to make the score 15-3 at the break. In the second half, Tourville added her sixth goal. Valeria Tkacik and Lydia Buckley each found the back of the net in the second half.

Ave Maria outshot Pikeville 42-7 and had 31 shots on goal compared to Pikeville at seven. AMU had 44 ground balls and won 19 draw controls compared to six by Pikeville.

Tourville finished with six goals while Sherman netted a hat trick for AMU. Castro and Smich each had two goals. Castro led the Lady Gyrenes with three caused turnovers and eight draw controls.

Ave Maria returns to action on Friday when they welcome Truett-McConnell College to Gyrene Field. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
