GULF SHORES, Ala. --- The Ave Maria softball team dropped both games Friday afternoon on day one of the Gulf Coast Invitational. They fell to Martin Methodist (Tenn.) 1-0, before dropping a 9-0 decision in five innings to the Badgers of Spring Hill College (Ala.).
The Blue and Green were unable to come up with a timely hit versus Martin Methodist, leaving nine runners stranded throughout the game and two in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings. Deanna Stirtzinger led the offensive charge with a pair of hits for AMU. Sadie Mosher tossed a complete game in the loss, allowing one unearned run on just three hits and two walks.
Offense was hard to come by in game two. Spring Hill pitcher Caroline Sagrera was in full control as she struck out 11 of the 19 Ave Maria batters she faced.Â
Marinna Shadley, Kingsley Avery, and McKayla Jeter each collected a hit in game two.Â
The Lady Gyrenes drop to 10-9 on the season.
AMU returns to action in pool play tomorrow when they take on Brenau University (Ga.) and Central Methodist University (Mo.) at 12 and 4p.m.
