UAH Takes Down AMU 20-12

CLEARWATER, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's lacrosse team fell to the University of Alabama at Huntsville, 20-12, in a neutral site contest on Sunday afternoon. The Blue and Green fell behind 13-3 in the first half before outscoring the DII opponent 9-7 over the final 30 minutes.
 
Katelyn Sherman led the Lady Gyrenes with seven goals on nine shots. She also had three ground balls and was 2-for-2 on free position shots. Abby Castro finished with three goals and four ground balls. She had two caused turnovers and six draw controls. Mackenzie Tourville added two goals and an assist and had six ground balls and six draw controls.
 
Hannah Camerota took the loss in goal, allowing 20 goals and making four saves. Megan Hart led seven UAH scorers with five goals.
 
UAH scored the first two goals of the game before Castro put the Lady Gyrenes on the board with a goal 2:33 into the game. Tourville snapped a six goal run by UAH with a goal at the 12:58 mark to make it 8-2. A couple minutes later Sherman scored her first of seven goals to make it 9-3 with 8:56 to play in the opening half.
 
Trailing 13-3 heading to the second half, UAH scored three straight to start the half to make it 16-3. Sherman then scored back-to-back goals to pull AMU within 11, 16-5. After a UAH goal, AMU went on a 4-0 run with goals from Castro and Tourville and two goals from Sherman. Castro added a third goal late in the second half and Sherman finished the game with back-to-back goals to make it 20-12.
 
The Blue and Green return to action on Tuesday when they host Tennessee Wesleyan College for a 4 p.m. matchup.
