AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's lacrosse team edged the fourth-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan College Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon, 12-11. The Lady Gyrenes and Bulldogs were knotted at the half and remained tied until Mackenzie Tourville scored the game winning goal with 2:02 remaining.
 
Tennessee Wesleyan jumped on the board first with a pair of goals in the opening minutes to take a 2-0 lead. A few minutes later, Abby Castro found the back of the net to bring AMU within one. After Tennessee Wesleyan and Tourville exchanged goals, the Blue and Green scored four of the next five goals to take a one goal lead, 6-5.
 
With 16:22 to play in the first half, Kelly Bilz received a red card for Tennessee Wesleyan, resulting in game disqualification. Over the final 15 minutes of the opening half, Tennessee Wesleyan scored three of the final five goals of the half to even the score at eight. Tourville had both of the AMU goals in the final 10 minutes of the half.
 
In the second half, the Bulldogs took the lead 9-8 early in the half before Alexis Smich and Tourville each netted goals to give AMU a 10-9 advantage. With 9:09 remaining, Tennessee Wesleyan tied the game at 10.
 
Katelyn Sherman broke the 10-10 tie with a goal with 3:06 remaining in the game. The Bulldogs responded with a goal at the 2:29 mark to again tie the game at 11. Tourville then scored off an assist by Georgia Miller with 2:02 to play to put the Lady Gyrenes ahead 12-11.
 
Tourville finished with six goals and an assist on 13 shots and four ground balls. Sherman added three goals. Abby Castro finished with two goals and six groundballs. Alexis Smich had the other goal for AMU.
 
Hannah Camerota picked up the win, making 10 saves while allowing 11 goals over 60 minutes in net.
 
Ave Maria returns to action on Wednesday when they host Columbia College at 3 p.m.
