AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's lacrosse team gave the ninth-ranked Columbia College Koalas all they could handle Wednesday afternoon, falling 10-9 in overtime.
 
Columbia got on the board first with a goal 2:38 into the opening half. The Lady Gyrenes responded with a Mackenzie Tourville goal a few minutes later to tie the game at one. After Columbia scored to make it 2-1, Lydia Buckley netted a man-up goal to tie the game at two.
 
Columbia finished the half on a 4-1 run with the AMU goal being scored by Tourville, her second of the game, to take a 6-3 lead into the break.
 
The Koalas scored a goal to start the second half but two straight goals by the Lady Gyrenes, on from Tourville and the other by Katelyn Sherman, brought AMU to within two, 7-5. After Columbia scored to maket it 8-5, AMU went on a four goal run to take a 9-8 lead with 3:55 to play. The AMU goals came from Valeria Tkacik, Abby Castro, Tourville, and Buckley.
 
With 33 seconds remaining in regulation, Columbia scored to tie the game at nine. The Koalas then scored 1:19 into the sudden-victory overtime period to win the game 10-9.
 
Tourville led the Lady Gyrenes with four goals and an assist. Buckley netted two goals while Castro, Tkacik, and Sherman each found the back of the net once. Castro also had two assists. Georgia Miller also had an assist.
 
Hannah Camerota took the loss in net, allowing 10 goals while making nine saves.
 
Ave Maria returns to action on Monday when they host the University of Pikeville at 4 p.m.
