TAMPA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's lacrosse team fell in their regular season finale on Wednesday night at NCAA DII University of Tampa, 17-1.

The Blue and Green drop to 5-7 on the season with the loss as they now turn their sights on Georgetown College for their matchup in the South Region tournament semifinal next weekend. A win against Georgetown would secure the Lady Gyrenes a bid to the NWLL Tournament later this month.

Tampa scored the game's first 12 goals, all in the first half, to take a 12-0 lead into the break. Alexis Smich broke the Spartans run, finding the back of the net early in the second half. Tampa finished the game with five straight goals to make it a 17-1 final.

Tampa outshot AMU 26-13 with 21 of the Spartans shots coming on frame compared to five from Ave. UT held a 27-8 advantage in ground balls and a 12-8 edge in draw controls.

Hannah Camerota took the loss in net to finish the season with a 5-7 record. She made four saves on the night.
