AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team fell in four close sets to Florida National on Friday night in their second game of the Edward Waters College Invitational. AMU returns to action at 9 a.m. tomorrow when they face Concordia College (Ala.).

The Lady Gyrenes jumped out to an early lead in set one and held a 10-5 advantage before a pair of three point spurts by Florida National brought the Conquistadors to within one, 12-11. The Blue and Green continued to lead until a four-point run by FNU gave them a 19-18 advantage. Florida National took the final three points of the set to take it 25-22.

The Lady Gyrenes fell behind early in the second set but rallied to take a 17-13 lead after four straight points. Leading 23-16, Florida National ran off six straight points to pull within one of AMU but back-to-back kills by Hannah Wurster gave AMU the second set 25-22.

Ave Maria trailed for much of the third set and eventually dropped the set 25-20. In the fourth, the teams went back-and-forth early with the set knotted at 16 halfway through the set. Florida National then tallied four straight points to take a 20-16 lead, they went on to take the set 25-22.

AMU hit .236 in the game with 18 errors. Lexy Smith led AMU with 19 kills and five blocks. Lauren Ruby had 38 assists and two service aces. Jessica Schein led the Lady Gyrenes with 11 digs followed by Monique Rivers and Nina Parlapiano with 8 apiece.
