Golf Teams Conclude Webber Intercollegiate

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's and women's golf teams wrapped up the 2016 Webber Intercollegiate yesterday afternoon. The Blue and Green men's team finished in eighth while the women's team finished in fifth.
 
The men's team matched their round one total with a 329 to finish the tournament at 988. Cameron Weikart led the Gyrenes with a tied for 33rd finish after rounds of 76, 79, and 78. Jakub Szlaur finished in second for AMU at 247 (85-80-82) followed by Michael Toomey at 255 (83-85-86). Anthony Nycum and Nicholas Dicioccio rounded the out the scoring for AMU with rounds of 262 and 267, respectively.
 
St. Thomas was the team winner with a two-day, 54-hole total of 864. Johnson & Wales (877) finished in second followed by Webber International (880). Johnson & Wales' Alex Rainville was the low individual at 212 (-4).
 
On the women's side, Valerie Bertuccelli led AMU with a 197 total. Taylor Robinson improved 18 strokes in round two to fire a 91 and finish at 200. Mary Michelle Crush and Markelle Gateley rounded out the scoring for AMU at 228 and 231, respectively.
 
William Carey won the team tournament with a two round total of 617. Keiser finished in second at 623 followed by Southeastern at 645. Keiser's Elsa Westin was the low individual at 147 (+1).
 
Both teams return to action in two weeks at the USCB Sand Shark Invitational hosted in Tampa, Fla., at Innisbrook Golf Resort.
