Webber Downs Lady Gyrenes In Babson Park

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- Ave Maria volleyball hit the road for a mid-week conference match against Webber International. This is the second match between the two sides in as many of weeks. The Lady Gyrenes were looking to return the favor of stealing a win on their home floor.

The Warriors had different ideas and they came out on the top of their game. They built an early first set lead and never gave it up to take the first set. Jessica Sanchez led the way offensively with three kills in the set and Lauren Ruby holding down the fort defensively with 4 digs for Ave Maria.

The second set saw much of the same as Webber built a 10-1 early lead. The Lady Gyrenes had no quit in them as they battled, trying close the gap. Lexie Andric rattled off 4 straight service points forcing a timeout out of Webber. Out of the timeout, Webber regained their stellar form once again, returning to big hitting from the outside. They easily recorded the second set victory.

With Webber International up two sets to zero, the Lady Gyrenes still wouldn't give up. They came out determined to take the set and jumped out to an early lead. The Warriors returned the high level of play as the set went back and forth, with no team having more than a two-point lead. But at 16-16 the Warriors found another gear, ripping off 5 straight points to take control of the set, winning the set 25-18 and the match three games to zero.

Ruby ended the night with 9 digs and Sanchez finished with a team high 5 kills.

Next up for the Ave Maria Lady Gyrenes is a home matchup with Johnson and Wales on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 2pm in Golisano Field House.
