AVE MARIA, Fla. --- On Saturday afternoon, the Ave Maria Lady Gyrenes basketball team picked up their fourth Sun Conference win and second of the week against the Warriors of Webber International. The 70-44 victory was AMU's second TSC win in the past three days, as they now sit at 7-8 overall.
The early stage of the game was a back and forth battle as the Lady Gyrenes outscored Webber 19-13 in the first quarter but were outscored 12-7 in the second.
Coming out of the locker room, AMU grabbed control of the game in the second half and was able to widen the scoring gap late with a 26 point fourth quarter.
Lauren Gillingham played all 40 minutes of the game and scored 17 points with eight rebounds and six assists. Erin Koehler was the second leading scorer for the blue and green, adding 10 points and seven rebounds coming off of the bench for Coach Baston's squad. Sarah Miller finished with nine points and 10 rebounds for AMU while Macarena Corral added nine points, seven rebounds, and four steals.
AMU shot 47.6 percent from the field and made five from behind the arc. The Lady Gyrene defense held Webber to under 30 percent shooting and forced them into 16 turnovers.
Ave Maria will be back in action on Tuesday as they head to Temple Terrace to take on Florida College with tip off set for 5:30 pm.
