Volleyball Comes Up Short at Webber

Babson Park, Fla. - Day two of the Lakeland/Babson Park trip had the Lady Gyrene volleyball team matched up with the Webber International Warriors.
The Warriors came into the match in second play in the Sun Conference standings with an 8-1 conference record. Even with Ave Maria putting some early pressure on the Warriors, Webber International took the win three sets to one off the Lady Gyrenes.

Early in the first set the Warriors looked every bit like the front runners as they jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead. But AMU wasn't intimidated as they took 10 of the next 11 points to build their biggest lead of the match 12-7, forcing a Webber International timeout. Webber International clawed back in, getting within one point at 21-20 but the Lady Gyrenes were able to take four of the next five points and win the first set 25-21. Erica Chenard and Bre Holder were the driving force in the set, getting four kills and three kills respectively.

Webber International came out early in the second set and again established a lead, 8-3. AMU climbed back to even the score at ten but Webber International won seven out the next eight points to build a big lead and didn't look back for the rest of the match.

After winning the second set 25-13, Webber International really hit their stride and built big leads from then on. They took the third set by the same score, 25-13, and closed out the match with a fourth set victory at 25-14.

Chenard finished with nine kills and three blocks. Savannah Stanton had five kills and Natalie Rosinski finished with three kills to go along with her three blocks. Daniella Jaramillo finished with 20 digs in the match. Lauren Ruby had 16 assists and 12 digs.

Next up for the Lady Gyrenes is the second showdown with Keiser University on Saturday, October 14 at 2pm in the Tom Golisano Field House on the campus of Ave Maria University.
