Keiser Pulls Away From Gyrenes In Second Half

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. --- Facing one another for the second time in nine days, the Ave Maria men's basketball was unable to keep up with the Keiser Seahawks in the second half, falling 90-56.
 
Tejai Allen led the Gyrenes with 14 points and 11 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season.
 
Deonte Dixon also had 14 points for the Blue and Green. Dixon, who now has 555 points on the season, broke the school's single season scoring record with two games to play. The record was previously held by Matt Chattin who had 549 points during the 2013-14 season. Dixon is averaging 21.6 points per game and has made 103 from behind the arc on the season (NAIA DII best).
 
Josh Flowers also finished in double-figures for AMU with 12 points.
 
After falling behind by 10 midway through the opening half, the Gyrenes were able to chip away at the Keiser lead and pulled within one, 24-23, after Exor Torres hit a three with 7:51 to play. Keiser responded with a run of their own to take a 37-29 into the half.
 
In the second half, Keiser shot 60 percent and made seven threes to outscore AMU 53-37 to pull away from AMU.
 
For the game, AMU shot 33 percent and made seven threes. Keiser finished shooting at a 53 percent clip with 10 threes. Keiser had a 40-14 advantage in points in the paint.
 
Deion McClenton led Keiser with 30 points and 17 rebounds. He was 14-of-16 from the field. Stanley Whittaker also had a double-double for the Seahawks with 14 points and 11 assists. He also had eight rebounds.
 
The Gyrenes conclude their season on Thursday when they travel to Webber International for the 7 p.m. tilt.
