LAKELAND, Fla. --- The Ave Maria softball team won both games of their Sunday doubleheader against Calumet College of St. Joseph. The games were played in Lakeland.

Ave Maria won game one by a score of 1-0. The Lady Gyrenes scored the first and only run of the game in the bottom of the first on a Sadie Mosher RBI single to left field to drive in Marinna Shadley. The rest of the game was a pitchers duel between Mosher and Weyer for Calumet.

Mosher pitched all seven innings, allowing four hits, four walks, and four strikeouts. Mosher improves to 4-1 on the season with the win. Weyer allowed one run on five hits and walked three.

In game two, jumped ahead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Shadley started the scoring when she stole home for the first run of the game. Later in the inning, Deanna Stirtzinger drew a bases loaded walk followed by a Emily Blackmore fielder's choice to bring in Mosher and Alyssa Colding, respectively, to make it 3-0.

An RBI single by Paige Aldred in the bottom of the fifth increased the AMU lead to four. After Calumet scored four in the top of the sixth to tie the game, Mosher homered to make it 5-4 in favor of AMU. Calumet wouldn't go away and scored another run in the seventh to tie the game at five.

In the bottom of the seventh and the bases loaded, Mosher hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Brittney Pressler to score to win the game.

Meghan Sullivan started the game for AMU and allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits and four walks. Presser picked up the win for AMU. She pitched the final two innings and allowed one run on three hits and no walks. She struck out two.

Shadley had four hits in the second game for AMU. She also scored a run and had two stolen bases.

The Lady Gyrenes return to action on Friday when they begin play at the 2017 Gulf Coast Invitational.
