GULF SHORES, Ala. --- The Ave Maria softball team won both of their games on Friday on the opening day of the Gulf Coast Invitational to improve to 13-3 on the season. AMU defeated Blue Mountain College 5-0 in an early morning game before taking down Spring Hill College 1-0 in eight innings in the afternoon.

In game one, Ave Maria got on the board in the second inning with a pair of runs thanks to a Genevieve Twigg two-run home run. The Lady Gyrenes tacked on three more in the fifth behind a Paige Aldred sac fly and a two-RBI single by Michella Davis.

AMU had six hits and one error in the game while Blue Mountain finished with just four hits.

Six different players recorded a hit for AMU while five different players scored runs Davis and Twigg both has two RBI. Sadie Mosher improved to 5-1 on the season with a four-hit, complete game shutout. She walked two and struck out seven.

In their second game of the day, it was a pitcher's duel between AMU's Brittney Pressley and a pair of Spring Hill pitchers. In the end, it was Spring Hill's Danielle Clark that would falter first when Alyssa Colding laid down a sac bunt in the top of the eighth that allowed Marinna Shadley to score the game's only run.

Pressley finished with AMU's second four-hit, complete game shutout of the day. She walked one and struck out seven for the Lady Gyrenes.

Baylie Doiron pitched 3.2 innings for Spring Hill and allowed four hits and two walks. Clarke pitched the final 4.1 innings for Spring Hill. She allowed one unearned run on two hits and a walk. The duo each struck out three Gyrenes.

The Lady Gyrenes return to action tomorrow when they take on Reinhardt at 1 p.m. The remaining games for AMU in the Gulf Coast Invitational will be determined tomorrow afternoon.
