Lacrosse Defeated At NCAA DII Shorter

ROME, Ga. --- The Lady Gyrenes fell on the road on Saturday afternoon at NCAA DII Shorter University 19-7.  AMU moves to 4-5 on the season.
 
Abby Castro opened the scoring for the Lady Gyrenes just over a minute into the game. After a Shorter run, a man-up goal by Katelyn Sherman regained the lead for AMU against the NCAA DII opponent. Shorter responded with four straight goals to take a 5-2 lead before a Georgia Miller goal ended the Shorter run. Shorter ended the half on a 8-0 run to take a 13-3 advantage into the break.
 
Shorter started the second half with goal before three straight by AMU. During the run, Sherman found the back of the net twice while Sarah Wade netted converted a man-up goal.
 
After a run by Shorter, Wade scored her second goal of the game with a minute to play to make it 19-7.
 
Shorter held a 37-17 advantage on shots on goal and committed seven fewer turnovers, 26-19.
 
Sherman led AMU with three goals while Wade finished with a pair. Sherman also collected a team-high four ground balls. Wade finished with three draw controls and three ground balls for Ave Maria.
 
Bianca Ballarin made 10 saves for AMU in the first half. Andie Wagner played the final 30 minutes and made eight saves.
 
The Lady Gyrenes return to action next weekend when they head to St. Louis, Mo., to take on Lindenwood-Belleville and Missouri Baptist.
