MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's soccer team opened their conference slate on Wednesday night in Miami Gardens when they took on 18th-ranked St. Thomas. The Gyrenes trailed 1-0 at the half before three second half goals by the Bobcats made the final 4-0.

Andrea Salomone made seven saves in net for the Gyrenes. Ave Maria was outshot 11-1. Hernando Valencia-Parra took the only shot for AMU.

Frederico Moronell got the scoring started for St. Thomas with a goal in the 44th minute. Goals by Konstantinos Mylonas (53rd minute) and Pablo Gill (80th minute) made it 2-0 in favor of the Bobcats. St. Thomas added a fourth goal in the 87th minute when Pedro Silva found the back of the net.

St. Thomas took eight corners compared to three by AMU.

The Gyrenes return to action on Saturday when they welcome Thomas to AMU Soccer Field. The match will kick off at noon.
