MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's basketball team fell on the road to 14th-ranked St. Thomas 80-60 on Saturday afternoon. The Gyrenes return to action on Thursday when they host Webber in a TSC contest.

Two nights after coming up one three shy of tying a school record with 17 made, the Gyrenes were unable to find their rhythm from behind the arc this afternoon. The Blue and Green were 8-of-33 from three and shot 41 percent from the field.

Gianpaolo Riccio led AMU with 18 points and five rebounds. He played all 40 minutes for Ave. Greenan Sullivan and Nemanja Brankov each finished in double-figures with 14 points and 10 points, respectively.

After the Gyrenes took a 2-0 lead, the Blue and Green were unable to connect on their next few threes which allowed the Bobcats to take a 8-2 lead. Ave Maria would keep within striking distance of St. Thomas and tied the game at 25-25 after a three by Sullivan with 8:20 to play in the opening half. The Bobcats then went on a 18-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 13 point lead.

St. Thomas led 46-34 at the half and wouldn't surrender the lead the rest of the game. AMU did make a run midway through the second half and brought the game to within eight before the Bobcats were able to reestablish a double-digit lead.
