AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team rallied from two set to one own to take down Florida Memorial in five sets. The win is AMU's second in conference play and they sit 5-12 overall.

Lauren Ruby led AMU with 13 kills, 24 assists, and 17 digs. She led or tied for the team best in each of the three categories. Katie O'Donnell finished with 12 kills, three service aces and 16 digs. Jenna Barnak also tallied double-digit kills with 11. Cassie Davis finished with 21 assists. Alejandra Suarez and Daniela Jaramillo each tallied double-digit digs with 17 and 13, respectively.

All five sets were competitive and came down to the final few points. In the opener, AMU trailed 18-17 before FMU won seven of the next nine points t close out the set. The Gyrenes turned it around in the second set and with the match tied at 18, the Blue and Green won seven of the next nine points to win the set 25-20 and even up the match at one set apiece.

In the third set, Ave Maria trailed by as many as five points in the early part of the set before fighting back to tie the match at 20 and eventually taking a lead at 22-21. Tied at 24, the Lions won the next two points to take a 2-1 advantage.

The fourth set was back-and-forth for most of the set with 11 lead changes in total. The last lead change of the set ended with AMU breaking a 21-21 tie and winning the final four points of the set to claim a 25-21 win and force a fifth set.

The Gyrenes led for most of the tiebreaker set but had to withstand a late rally by Florida Memorial. AMU went on to win the fifth and deciding set 15-13.

Ave Maria returns to action on Saturday when the Gyrenes host Coastal Georgia at 2 p.m.
