AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's tennis team fell to NCAA Division II opponent Florida Tech on Wednesday afternoon, 7-2.
The Gyrenes gave Florida Tech three tough doubles matches that saw AMU head to singles play with a 2-1 deficit. Sebastian Ramirez and David Zuleta fell 8-6 at one-doubles while Nicholas Hofmeister and Brandon Valley dropped their match at two-doubles 9-7. Cesar Menacho and Brian Schmidt won the lone doubles point for AMU in the third double match, 9-8 (7-2).
In singles play, Florida Tech won at one, two, four, five, and six singles to reach seven points. AMU's Hofmeister won at three-singles 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
Ave Maria moves to 8-5 with the loss. Ave Maria tennis concludes the regular season on April 7 at home against Eckerd College.
