AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria softball team dropped both games of the conference doubleheader at USCB. The Lady Gyrenes fell in game one 7-0 and dropped game two 1-0. This is the first time this season that AMU has been shut out in back-to-back games.
 
In game one, USCB scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third. The Sand Sharks broke the game open in the sixth with six runs on five hits and two AMU errors.
 
Kalie Romig was 2-for-2 in game one and drew a walk. Genevieve Twigg had the lone other hit for the Blue and Green.
 
Brianna Geiger took the loss in the game. She allowed seven runs, three earned, on nine hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.
 
It was a pitcher's duel in game two with USCB coming out on top 1-0. The Sand Sharks scored the games only run on an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Brooke Pierron took the hard-luck loss, pitching six innings of one-run ball. She allowed seven hits and walked two while striking out one.
 
Romig, Emma Thompson, and Abagail Love each tallied a hit for the Lady Gyrenes.
 
Ave Maria moves to 18-11 on the season and to 3-5 in conference play with the losses.
 
The Blue and Green return to action on Wednesday when they travel to St. Thomas for a pair of TSC games.
