AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's lacrosse team fell to unbeaten and top-ranked SCAD-Savannah this afternoon 25-8. Ave Maria moves to 1-11 on the season. The Gyrenes conclude their season next week with a pair of games in Kansas.

SCAD got off to a quick start, scoring four goals in the first 2:30 of the game. Katelyn Sherman broke the SCAD run with a goal at the 26:49 mark. A few minutes later, Anneliese Sawick found the back of the net to make the score 5-2.

After six straight by the Bees, Sherman scored two straight. Her first at the 12:06 mark and the second at the 3:43 mark in the first half. Aiyanah Simms scored less than a minute later to make the score 12-5.

Three straight by SCAD made it 15-5 before Simms netted a goal just before the half to make it a nine goal deficit after 30 minutes of play.

In the second half, SCAD scored the first seven goals to make the score 22-6 and put it out of reach for the Gyrenes. Sherman and Alexis Smich each found the back of the net in the second half for AMU.

SCAD out-shot AMU 51-19 with 36 of those finding frame compared to 12 from the Gyrenes. The Bees had a slight edge in turnovers and ground balls. SCAD held a 27-8 advantage in draw controls.

Sherman led the Gyrenes with four goals and one assist on six shots. Simms and Stephanie Hilker each tallied a team-best four ground balls. Alexa Keeler had three draw controls for the Blue and Green.
