LAKELAND, Fla. --- The Ave Maria baseball team fell on the road against third-ranked Southeastern 5-2. Ave Maria moves to 14-28 on the season and to 3-15 in conference play. AMU returns to action on Wednesday when they take on Keiser in a non-conference mid-week matchup.

Southeastern took the early lead with a run in the second and two more in the bottom of the third inning.

Tully Allen got the Gyrenes on the board in the top of the fifth when he scored on a wild pitch by the Southeastern starter.

In the sixth, Ave Maria pulled to within one when a bunt single by Nick Wydler scored Chris Wydler.

In the bottom half of the inning, a double steal scored one run for the Fire and a double plated a fifth run for Southeastern to make the final 5-2.

Rico Soto was 3-for-5 on the day while Nick Wydler also recorded multiple hits.

Justin Bureau allowed four runs on eight hits and one walk in the loss. He struck out eight. Andrew Giddens pitched the final two innings and didn't allow a run. He struck out two and walked three.
