TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's soccer team's comeback fell just short in their 5-4 loss at Florida College on Thursday afternoon. Trailing 5-2, AMU got within a goal but ran out of time in their road contest.

Amanda Stacy started the scoring for the Gyrenes with a goal off a pass from Lauren Campoe four minutes into the game. Three straight goals by Flordia College made is 3-1 Falcons at the half.

Hannah Lawrence finished off a pass from Sarah McBride to make it s 3-2 game. Florida College responded with a pair of goal to lead 5-2 with 19 minutes remaining.

Mia Pontarelli scored two minutes later to bring AMU within two. Meghan Precord assisted on the Pontarelli goal and then scored a goal of her own with seven minutes to play to cut the deficit to one.

AMU scored on all four shots they took while Florida College took nine shots on the night.

Molly Jensen made five saves in net for AMU.

Ave Maria returns to action on Saturday when they take on Trinity Baptist in Jacksonville at 4 p.m.
