Warner Tops Men’s Soccer In Lake Wales

LAKE WALES, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's soccer team hit the road Saturday night for a Sun Conference contest with Warner. The royals topped the Gyrenes 5-1 behind three first half goals.
 
Warner opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Simiran Pnaiser deflected a shot in the left side of the net. Daniel Rodriguez and Widler Monestime each scored for Warner in the first half, Rodriguez in the 12th minute and Monestime in the 29th.
 
In the second half, a break away goal by Nick Diaz gave the Royals a 4-0 lead in the 53rd minute. AMU got on the board a few seconds later with Hernando Valencia-Parra finding the back of the net.
 
Warner added a goal in the 73rd minute to take a 5-1 lead.
 
The teams were even on shot attempts with 18 each. Warner edged AMU in shots on goal 10-7. The Royals also had the edge in corner kicks 9-7 but committed nine more fouls, 11-2. Warner also had each of the three yellow cards in the match.
 
Kensley Jean-Baptiste and Raphael Rodriguez took the most shots for AMU with five and four shots, respectively. Rodriguez and John Gokey each had two shots on goal.
 
Ian Wall got the start in goal for AMU.
 
Ave Maria return to action on Tuesday night when they host the University of the Virgin Islands at Gyrene Field. The match will start at 7 p.m.
