AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria baseball team fell to the 18th-ranked Webber Warriors 13-4 on Friday afternoon in the opener of a three-game conference series. The two teams return to the field on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.

After a pitcher's duel over the first three innings, Webber got the games first runs in the fourth on a three-run home run. The Gyrenes got one run back in the bottom half of the inning on a home run by Alex Perez.

Webber added two runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Andy Hernandez homered to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Warriors scored four in the sixth and a run in the seventh and eight to push the lead to 11-2. Tully Allen doubled in Daniel Caylor in the bottom of the eighth.

After a pair of Webber runs in the top of the ninth, Luis Rodriguez singled to center field in the bottom of the ninth to drive in Hernandez.

Rodriguez had three hits to lead AMU. Perez had two hits while four other Gyrenes recorded a hit on the day.

Seven Gyrenes took the mound for AMU. Justin David got the start and went three innings and allowed three runs on one hit and two walks. He struck out five.
