No. 4 Keiser Tops AMU Lacrosse

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Ave Maria University lacrosse team played their final game of the season in the state of Florida on Saturday afternoon, losing a 19-5 decision to in-state rival Keiser University. The fourth-ranked Seahawks moved to 11-2 overall and undefeated in the Mid-South Conference, while the Gyrenes dropped to 5-6 and 1-2.

Keiser scored the first six goals of the match, including two goals in the first two minutes of the match. Six different Seahawks scored in the opening stretch before AMU got on the board with back-to-back goals from Emma Davis and Isabella Pinsonault. Keiser would then end the first half on a 7-1 run, with a goal from Katelyn Sherman the only tally for the Gyrenes. The run gave KU a 13-3 lead heading into halftime.

The goal-scoring slowed in the second half, with Keiser outscoring the Gyrenes 6-2. The Seahawks scored the first three goals of the half, recorded by Se'Anna Beikirch, Micaela Rillo, and Dakota Zdun. Ave Maria answered with goals from Jessica Denara and Sherman before Keiser ended the game with three more unanswered goals, accounting for the final 14-goal margin.

Sherman led the Gyrenes offensively, scoring twice and assisting on another. Kaylee Wesolowski recorded a team-high five ground balls, while Aiyanah Simms logged five draw controls. For the Seahawks, Madalyn Huber scored a game-high three goals while grabbing three ground balls and three draw controls while causing two turnovers.

Next week will mark the final two games of the regular season for the Gyrenes, who will travel to Kentucky for a pair of matchups. Ave Maria will face No. 8 Georgetown on Friday before concluding the regular season against No. 3 Cumberlands on Sunday. Both games are in Mid-South Conference play, leading to the conference tournament back in Cumberlands beginning April 25.
