No. 17 Women’s Tennis Slips Up at No. 5 SCAD

AMU will face the Bees in Sun Conference Semifinals on April 29

SAVANNAH, Ga.  – The No. 17 Ave Maria University women's tennis team came out on the short end of a 7-0 decision at No. 5 Savannah College of Art and Design on Thursday afternoon.
 
The loss concludes the regular season for the Gyrenes, who posted an overall record of 9-4 and will face SCAD once again in the Sun Conference semifinals on Thursday, April 29 to open the postseason.
 
SCAD swept all three doubles matches in straight sets to earn the point.  Lara Teodoro and Julia Candiotto fell to Priya Sukkanha and Eika Johanna Weber 6-2 in the No. 1 slot. 
 
Amarlia Benn and Gabrielle Benn fell 6-1 to SCAD's Tova Tilk Tobrand and Yue Yu at No. 2, while Katie Fuller and Aethielle Kelkboom dropped a 6-2 decision against Nicole Katzarkov and Haley Morrissey.
 
SCAD won each of the six singles matches, including five in two sets.  AMU's Lara Teodoro pushed SCAD's Yue Yu to the limit in the No. 1 flight coming up just short in a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 loss.
 
Julia Candiotto fell at the No. 2 slot to Priya Sukkanha 6-0, 7-5 and at No. 3, Gabrielle Benn was edged by Haley Morrissey, 6-4, 7-6.
 
Aethielle Kelkboom (No. 4) fell 6-2, 6-2 and No. 5 Kely Oliveira dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision.  Katie Fuller closed out the singles results for AMU with a 6-2, 6-2 result at No. 6.
