AMU Lacrosse Handles Webber 14-1 on Senior Day

Senior Aiyanah Simms & junior Emma Davis each register four goals in victory

AVE MARIA, Fla.  – Senior Aiyanah Simms and junior Emma Davis each posted four goals to pace the Ave Maria University lacrosse team to a 14-1 victory over Webber University on Wednesday night at Gyrene Field.
 
The game was never in doubt as the Gyrenes took a 12-0 lead into the intermission while outshooting the Wildcats 26-8 over the initial 30 minutes.  AMU scored five goals in the opening five minutes of action – three by Davis and a pair from Simms.
 
The game was called 18:37 seconds into the second half.
 
The contest marked the Gyrenes final home contest of the season and featured a pregame ceremony honoring the program's 2021 senior class.
 
The victory improves Ave Maria's overall record to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in Mid-South Conference play.  Webber slips to 0-5 both overall and in conference play in what is its inaugural season of play.
 
Megan Dennis scored Webber's lone goal of the contest at the 28:50 mark of the second half.
 
Kaylee Wesolowski made seven saves in net to earn the win for the Gyrenes.  Senior Alexa Keeler added two goals in the win for AMU, while Jessica Denara, Monrae Prentice, Nieve Macedo and Emma Baughman each recorded a single tally.
 
AMU closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 10 at No. 2 Keiser in a game slated for a 3 p.m. EDT start.  The Gyrenes will then begin the postseason with the Mid-South Tournament, which is scheduled for April 22-24 in Williamsburg, Ky.
