AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY RELEASES ON-LINE COURSE, "ATHLETICS AND THE VIRTUES"

Athletic Director Joe Patterson is joined by other Gyrene coaches and administrators in a new online course

AVE MARIA, Fla. — Ave Maria University has recently released "Athletics and the Virtues," an on-line course within its Pursuit of Wisdom series. The course focuses upon the vices to be avoided—and the virtues to be embraced—within the context of the sports world. Joe Patterson, AMU's Vice President and Director of Athletics, hosts the course, utilizing his 26 years of experience as a head football coach alongside his 19 years as a literature teacher. Coach Patterson is joined by other members of the Ave Maria Athletic Department (Alan Webb, Jamon Copeland, JC Plezbert, Jarvis McGarrah, and Liz Feger) to explore pride, greed, envy, wrath, sloth, lust, and gluttony, and their countervailing virtues of humility, generosity, charity, patience, piety, chastity, and temperance. The discussion is framed within the context of the three bedrock principles of the Ave Maria Athletics Department: effort, toughness, and love.
