AVE MARIA, Fla. — Ave Maria University is pleased to announce the beginning of the process to induct the fifth class into the Ave Maria University Athletics Hall of Fame. This process begins with the nomination cycle.

Beginning today and through to July 13, interested parties can use the link above to nominate those whom they feel are worthy of consideration for the Hall of Fame. AMU graduates who receive enough nominations and meet the below criteria will be included on the final Hall of Fame ballot, which will be published on-line Wednesday, July 15.

The following criteria will be used for selecting alumni for the Hall of Fame ballot. Potential inductees must meet at least one of the following criteria:

•            NAIA All-American selection at any point in collegiate career

•            Two-time All-Conference selection, with at least one First Team

•            Winner of a major conference Award (Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, etc.)

•            CoSIDA Academic All-American

Additionally, potential candidates must be at least four years removed from their graduation from Ave Maria University.  Non-student athletes, such as coaches, administrators, and contributors, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Voting for the Hall of Fame will be open from July 15 through August 5, with the fourth Ave Maria University Hall of Fame class formally announced in mid-August.

Also beginning today through August 5, interested parties can use the related link above to nominate alumni to be considered for the John Paul II Distinguished Alumni Award. Nominees need to have played a varsity sport and earned a degree from the university. Any success away from the University's athletic fields, whether it be business, financial, spiritual, or otherwise, can be considered. The ideal candidate will be one who made significant accomplishments in his or her career or field of interest, and who has represented themselves well as an alum of Ave Maria University.  Weight will be given to those who have also had a positive impact on their community since departing Ave Maria. A committee of AMU stakeholders will select a single John Paul II Distinguished Alumni Award winner from the nominees.

The Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony will take place as part of Homecoming weekend on Friday, October 23. That Saturday, Ave Maria Volleyball and Football are both home against the Warner Royals.
