Armstead and Shanahan Named to All-Sun Teams

TAMPA, Fla. — The Sun Conference announced the 2024-25 All Conference women's basketball teams Wednesday and two Gyrenes were honored by the conference. Colleen Shanahan was named to the First Team, her second year in a row being honored by the conference, and Lavariah Armstead was named to the second team, her first time being honored since her freshman season in 2021-22.

Shanahan had the best season of her collegiate career in 2024-25, leading the team in field goals made (156), field goal percentage (.622), points (358), rebounds (230) and blocks (28). Shanahan was in the top five all season in field goal percentage in the NAIA and led the country for a few weeks. Shanahan led the team in scoring in nine of their 28 games so far the most on the team. She also recorded 13 double-doubles, which the sixth-most in a season in program history. In her Ave Maria career, she has 23 double-doubles, fifth-most in school history.

Armstead was named to the Second All-Sun Conference Team; her first time being honored since her freshman year when she was named to the First Team. Armstead currently leads the team in games played (28), minutes (894), free throws made (59), assists (82) and steals (51). Armstead was second in scoring behind Shanahan with 331 points. She led the team in scoring in eight games this season, one shy of Shanahan. Armstead has the 10th most points in program history at 928.

Southeastern and Keiser tied for the most honorees across the First and Second Teams, each with four. Ave Maria knocked Keiser out of the Sun Conference Tournament Tuesday evening with a 61-45 win in the Quarterfinals. Southeastern finished second getting a pass to the Semifinals.

Ave Maria joined Florida Memorial, St. Thomas, Warner and Webber for the third-most honorees, all with two. Coastal Georgia and New College rounded out the conference with one.

The Gyrenes are still alive in the Sun Conference Tournament, taking on the top seeded Florida Memorial Lions in the Semifinals in Miami Gardens. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the Sun Digital Network.
