WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Ave Maria Men's Tennis team fell in their second to last game of the regular season at the hands of the Keiser Seahawks. Similar to the women's match, Keiser swept the match, winning the doubles point and the first three singles pairings to win 4-0.
In the doubles round, Keiser won the second and third pairings 6-2 and 6-1, respectively.
In the singles round, the Seahawks took the second, fourth and fifth pairings to win the match. Gianmarco Punzo won the most games in those three pairings, falling 6-3, 6-3.
In the three pairings that didn't finish, Anderson Duggan was leading in the second set 2-0 when the match was called after falling in a tight first set 7-5. Juan Garcia had dropped his first set 6-0 but had come back to win five games in the second set and was only down 6-5. In the sixth pairing, Julien Mourad had won four games across two sets.
With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 6-7 on the year and 2-4 in conference play.
The Gyrenes have just one more match left in the regular season. Saturday, April 12, Ave Maria will travel a few miles south to Miami Gardens to take on the St. Thomas Bobcats. If the Gyrenes beat the Bobcats, they will clinch their spot in the Sun Conference Tournament. If they lose, they still have a chance to make the tournament but will need certain results from other matches happening around the conference.
