WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Ave Maria Women's Tennis team dropped their second to last game of the season Friday to the Keiser Seahawks. Keiser swept the match, winning the doubles point and then the first three singles pairings to win 4-0.
In the doubles round, Keiser won the first and third pairings 6-1 and 6-0, respectively.
In the singles round, Keiser got their final three points of the match with quick wins in the third, fifth and sixth pairings. Both the fifth and sixth pairings ended 6-0, 6-0 and the third ended 6-1, 6-0.
Clara Penido and Mariangel Nunez put up fights in the top two pairings, each winning three games across two sets, but the match ended before they could swing the momentum their way.
With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
The Gyrenes have one more match left in the 2025 regular season. Saturday, April 12, the Gyrenes will travel just a few miles south from West Palm Beach to Miami Gardens to take on the St. Thomas Bobcats. The Bobcats are just one win better than Ave Maria at 3-3.
After their match with the Bobcats, it is onto Georgia for the Sun Conference Tournament. The Gyrenes clinched their spot in the postseason a couple of weekends earlier with a win over Warner for their second win in conference play.
