Women's Soccer Shatters Franchise Record in Win

AVE MARIA, Fla. — Under the lights tonight at Gyrene Field, the Ave Maria Women's Soccer Team delivered a historic performance, overwhelming the Florida College Falcons with a 13-0 win. The Gyrenes scored nine goals in the first half alone, en route to shattering multiple program records for goals and shots in a single match.

Catherine Dalton opened the scoring in the third minute, launching the women into a great start, and they never looked back. Eleven different players found the back of the net, including multi-goal efforts from Dalton and Claire Wrobleski. Ave Maria fired a total of 59 shots, compared to just one from Florida College.

The 13-goal outburst set a new program record for most goals in a single game, passing the previous high of 10 goals set most recently in 2019. The women also broke marks for shots (59), which hasn't been done since 2022, underscoring a dominant attacking performance.

Nearly the entire roster saw action tonight, with several Gyrenes notching their first career goals, including Allie Burgess, Aviana Ferraez, Daria Charron, Sarah Humphris, Kennedy Ching, Cydnee Butler, and Sophia Egger. At halftime, the Gyrenes swapped out goalies, which gave freshman Avalena DeBolt her debut. The split time in goal with Emma Schweitzer in the first half resulted in the Gyrenes first shutout of the season.

Head Coach Tyler Rosser commended the team's effort, saying: "This score line's fine, but I was mostly pleased with us especially in the first half implementing the principles that we've been working on in training…" Rosser highlighted his team's ability to keep the ball moving, limit touches, build upon combination play in the attacking 3rd, and maintain defensive discipline.

"It was a good night, but I'm mostly pleased with just us improving on what we worked on in training", he said. "It's been wonderful this season because everyone is just a really solid player, so we can count on anybody on any given night...I just want to shout out the whole team for a really solid effort tonight and everybody did their role well."

Looking forward, the Gyrenes will hit the road with away matchups set for Mobile and Thomas in Georgia. "Thomas is always a good test, and we've never played Mobile, but they're a decent team," Rosser said, "It'll be a good test for us [and] it'll be a fun time."

The Gyrenes kick off their trip to the Peach State Saturday, August 30, with an afternoon match against Mobile. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. and live stats for the game can be found on the Ave Maria website.
