LECANTO, Fla. — The Ave Maria Men's Golf team finished fourth in a field of nine teams in the Battle at Black Diamond, hosted by New College. The tournament was cut short due to inclement weather and only the first round's scores were counted.

Ty Kaufman led the round for the Gyrenes, shooting an even 72. The second-place finisher in the previous week's Seahawk Shootout recorded three birdies on his way to an even round and tying for seventh on the player leaderboard.

Alfonso Baro Rosas, who is also coming off a great showing in the Seahawk Shootout, finished second on the team with a 73. He was followed by Neal Wheeler and Daniel Nycum with a 75 and 77 respectively. Wheeler contributed to the team score in one round during the Seahawk Shootout while Nycum contributed twice.

The Gyrenes finished with a team score of 9-over par, placing them in fourth place. Ave Maria was four strokes behind third place Southeastern and seven strokes ahead of fifth place SCAD.

The Gyrenes are back on the links September 29 and 30 in the Invite at Innisbrook hosted by Dalton State. It will be the third straight year Ave Maria has played at Innisbrook. Live scoring of the rounds will be kept on clippd.com.
