Men’s Soccer Closes September with Big Win

DORAL, Fla. — The Ave Maria Men's Soccer team closed out a phenomenal September with a big 8-2 win over the Albizu Pumas Sunday afternoon. Six different players found the back of the net for the Gyrenes, with two players recording a multi-goal game.

Sava Cadjenovic opened the scoring for the Gyrenes, burying a feed from Hayden Wysocki. Riley Green scored the next goal, assisted by Mateo Rolon. He was followed by Karl Sri lighting up the scoreboard with a dish from Brandon Gomez, and Rolon getting his first goal of the game off a feed from Andre Betioli.

Jael Parraga scored the fifth goal of the match for the Gyrenes, receiving a pass from Daniel Bourgeois. Rolon got his second goal of the game after that, being the first one to record a multi-goal game in the match. Gomez, after assisting on Sri's goal, got one of his own to give Ave Maria seven strikes. The final goal was again off the boot of Cadjenovic, joining Rolon in the multi-goal club.

For Green and Sri, it was their first goals of the season. Rolon led the team with five points off two goals and an assist. Hayden Wysocki led the team with two assists.

With the win, the Gyrenes improve to 5-3-2 and finish September with a record of 5-2-1.

Going into October, the Gyrenes will begin league play as they take on a tough Sun Conference. Their first league game is Wednesday, October 1, as they play host to the Southeastern Fire. Along with it being their conference opener, Wednesday will also be the Gyrenes' first home match since September 6. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed live on the Sun Digital Network.
