Blue-Green Game Offers Exciting Conclusion to Spring Practice

AVE MARIA, Fla. — Ave Maria Football's spring season concluded with its annual Blue-Green Game, pitting the defense versus the offense in a series of 10 drives. In addition to the obvious points for scores, points could be earned for tackles for loss, takeaways, explosive plays, first downs, and three-and-out's.

"It's always great to compete, but the game is more than just that," said Head Coach Joe Patterson. "It's a fitting cap to a month of great practice, and it serves as a launch pad for the rest of the offseason."

The defense prevailed on the scoreboard, thanks to a few standout performances by their defensive ends. Gregory Thomas led the way with four tackles for loss, which included 1.5 sacks, while Evan Bolick registered 2.5 sacks. Thomas led all tacklers as he recorded a total of seven throughout the game. Linebacker Nate Harrison and defensive back David Dorn both recorded interceptions.

The offense found its greatest success during the series of two-point conversion attempts. Twice, Jake Poldiak completed passes for scores, the first to fullback Drew Harrison and the second to wide receiver Logan Howard. The game ended on a positive note for the offense as Poldiak connected with Izaiah Henderson for a ten-yard touchdown on the final drive of the game. Reggie McBride was the leading rusher on the day, gaining 40 yards on five carries.

"There were a lot of positives out their tonight," said Coach Patterson. "It was a physical game with no injuries, which is always a plus. The overall team athleticism was encouraging."
