AVE MARIA, Fla. — Ave Maria Football has announced that it will be hosting a golf tournament the morning of the October 24 Homecoming Game. All proceeds from the tournament will go directly to support the football program.
Head football coach Joe Patterson is excited for the event, which marks the first time that the golf tournament has taken place in the fall.
"We are grateful to Vice President of Athletics John Weisbrod for allowing us to host the tournament during the heart of the football season," said Coach Patterson. "This will be the ninth straight year that we've hosted a golf tournament at AMU, but the first time that we've been able to sync it up with a home game."
Homecoming Weekend is always the high point of the fall athletic season, and all participants in the golf tournament will be granted a complimentary ticket for the evening's game, a 7 p.m. showdown versus Warner University at Gyrene Field.
The Panther Run Golf Club will serve as the venue for a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The foursomes will compete in a scramble format, and there will be side contests throughout the tournament, including a putting contest, a closest-to-the-pin contest, and a longest drive contest.
Following the tournament, participants will convene at Judi's Gym on the campus of Ave Maria University for a post-tournament meal and awards ceremony.
The tournament will also have a silent auction component, which is always quite popular. "The silent auction has proven to be a fantastic event," said Coach Patterson, "but it relies entirely upon the generosity of supporters." If you have something to donate to the silent auction, please email Coach Patterson directly at joseph.patterson@avemaria.edu.
To register as a participant in the tournament or to sign on as a sponsor, please visit the registration landing page here: AMU Football Golf Tournament | avemariagyrenes Box Office.
The day promises to be a day of great competition and camaraderie for Gyrene Nation.
"There is always a tremendous spirit to the tournament," said Coach Patterson. "The financial impact of the tournament on the football program is significant. We are always very appreciative of the outpouring of generosity associated with the event."
