Women’s Tennis Swept by Oakland City

LAKELAND, Fla. — The Ave Maria Women's Tennis team took on the Oakland City Mighty Oaks at a neutral site Thursday. The Gyrenes had a tough time against the 24th ranked team in the NAIA, falling 7-0.

In the opening doubles round, Oakland City won both sets 6-1 and 6-2 to take the first point of the match.

In the singles round, Ave Maria played just four players and had to forfeit the fifth and sixth pairings. Oakland City won the other four pairings to sweep the match 7-0. All four pairings ended in two set sweeps.

Elizabeth Pince and Melena Mourad tied for the most games won at four. Pince won one game in the first set and three in the second while Mourad won all four of her games in the second set.
With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 1-5 overall.

The Gyrenes are back in action Friday, March 20, at home against the Coastal Georgia Mariners. It will be the Sun Conference opener for Ave Maria as the Gyrenes settle in against their conference opponents.
