BABSON PARK, FLA. - The Ave Maria Baseball team traveled to Webber on Friday March 27th. The teams played a double header with the Warriors winning both games 13-3 and 23-4.
The Warriors scored five runs in the bottom of first inning. Webber found a groove early as six hits were recorded.
In the top of the third, the Gyrenes scored for the first time in the ballgame. Kyle Magdic sent the ball over the fence. The long ball served as Madic's fifth home run of the season. The Warriors went into the fourth inning with a 5-1 lead.
Anthony Fernandez hit his first home run of the season for the Gyrenes. Joe Manesiotis batted in Magdic to add another run for Ave Maria. The runs added by the Gyrenes cut the Warrior lead, as the fifth inning ended with a 5-3 score.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Warriors increased their lead to 10-3. Â The Warriors batted in the first two runs and Steven Nitch hit a three-run homer in the following at bat.
Webber hit another home run in the bottom of the eighth that scored two runs. The Warriors added another run late in the inning, ended the game with a final score of 13-3.
The Gyrenes had three players that recorded multiple hits. Magdic had three, while Fernandez and Kelton Klemcke both recorded two.
On the Mound, Ryan Young pitched four innings adding two strikeouts.
To start the second game of the series, the Gyrenes were able to score the first run. Ri'Shon Pearl batted in Fernandez, on a sacrifice fly, to give the Gyrenes a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, the Warriors were able to respond to the Gyrene lead. Webber added two runs to take the lead 2-1.
Webber scored 18 runs in the bottom of the third. The inning saw another Nitch homerun and a Grand Slam from Mike Cuello.
The Gyrenes were able to add two more runs in the top of the sixth. Klemcke knocked a single up the middle and batted in Manesiotis and Jake LaVine. The Warriors were still on top 20-3 moving into the bottom of the frame. Webber added three runs in response, ending the inning with a 23-3 lead.
In the last effort, Manesiotis batted in Daniel Williams on a sacrifice fly. This was the last score for the Gyrenes, as the game ended in the seventh frame with Webber on top 23-4.
From the plate, Klemcke led the Gyrenes with two hits and two RBIs. Fernandez was the only other Gyrene to record multiple hits as he finished with two as well.
On the mound, Christopher Risola pitched for two innings and recorded two strikeouts. Joey Pagni also pitched for two innings and recorded two strikeouts. Patrick Corley pitched for one inning and recorded one strikeout.
With the two losses the Gyrene drop to 9-12 overall and 6-8 in the conference.
