Men’s Tennis Drops Orlando Finale

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Ave Maria Men's Tennis team closed out their stay at the UTSA campus in Orlando Thursday evening. The Gyrenes dropped their final match, losing to the Michigan Tech Huskies 6-1.

In the opening doubles, Michigan Tech swept all three pairings, winning 6-0, 6-1, and 6-4. Julien Mourad and Joao Felipe Almeida were the pair to win the most games for the Gyrenes.

In the singles round, Ave Maria got their lone point from Pedro Garcia in the third pairing. Garcia won his match in two straight sets 7-5, 6-2. Garcia finished the week with a 4-0 record in the singles play.

Michigan Tech took the other five pairings to win 6-1. Mourad was the only other Gyrene to win a set, taking the second set in the fifth pairing 6-2. That forced a 10-point match tiebreaker set, but Mourad fell 10-6 giving the Huskies' player the point.

With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 1-4 on the year and finishes their stay in Orlando with a 1-3 record.

The Gyrenes will host a scrimmage against United International Wednesday, March 11. Their next countable match will be a neutral site tilt with the Oakland City Mighty Oaks Thursday, March 12, in Lakeland, Florida. It will be the first ever meeting between the two schools on the tennis court.
