Men’s Tennis Falls to Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Ave Maria Men's Tennis team fell to the NCAA Division II Eckerd Tritons Wednesday afternoon 7-0.

In the doubles round, Eckerd won all three pairings by a score of 6-3 to take the opening point of the match.

In the singles round, Andreu Soliva was the only Gyrene to win a set, taking the first frame of the fourth pairing. Soliva won 6-3 before falling 6-3 in the second set. In the tiebreaker set, Eckerd's Marshall Hulett won 10-5 win the point.

Pedro Garcia tied Soliva for the most games won on the team, taking nine games in two sets. Garcia forced a tiebreaker in the first set before falling 7-6.

Julien Mourad won six games across two sets followed by Joao Felipe Almeida with four, Gianmarco Punzo with three and Gavin Palladino with two.

With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 1-10 overall.

The Gyrenes are back on the court April 10 as the Keiser Seahawks come to town. Keiser was ranked No. 3 in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Poll.
